The goal with these chorales was to provide the director and the orchestra with ways of putting the scales and keys that they learn in context. These chorales, while still possessing strong harmonic foundations and intentional voice leading, are also new and exciting musical moments.

Additional teaching tools like varying meter, breaths, fermatas, irregular phrasing, and borrowed harmonies are all scattered throughout the chorales, as young musicians will likely encounter them in their concert repertoire.
